The main themes of the short story “The Veldt” by Ray Bradbury are the advance of technology. Basically, the branded “Happy-life Home” helps them all work of house chores and their needs. The “nursery” have the ability to make the virtual reality and environment of any place whatever their children think. However, when their children have been spending too much time in the nursery without interpersonal communication with their parents. George and Lydia try to have a conversation and spend time with them, but they do not know how to appropriately communicate with their children. George and Lydia want to belong in the real world, but it was too late when they realize “The Happy-life Home” has taken over all of their daily tasks. Technology has made their feel useless. The two children, Peter and Wendy, have become actual violence and furious toward their parents. The bloody wallet and scarf are a hint that George and Lydia’s death. At the end of the story, the virtual reality home leads the tragic to the Hadley family. Peter and Wendy, are a perfect example of how technology leads negatively affect children. The nursery becomes far more important than their biological parents and they do not need their parents anymore. This tale describes them as a robot. The author’s intention is to raise awareness of the dangers of allowing technology to become too powerful, but also of the dangers of parents losing control of their children.
